The brief was to redesign the book cover of 'Perfume. The Story of A Murderer', 

 

This book is about a man called Grenouille who has a remarkable sense of smell, which leads him to commit murder in his quest to create the ultimate perfume.

For the graphics I wanted to visualise smell as well as something that would represent the dark nature of the story but not be too obvious. Perfume is mostly applied to the upper body and smells are usually from the head and hair. I choose to use a silhouette that is associated with the era that the book is written in.
